Demand August Special Session!

To all citizens in Humphreys, Cheatham, Lewis, Hickman and Robertson Counties:

Dickson County Democrats are extremely upset with the current District 69 Rep. Jody Barrett, a Dickson County resident, asking Gov. Lee to not have the special session that Lee has organized to address GUN issues. A request to local democrats had already gone out to write to about the gun safety issues that we ask the State House to discuss/review/enact, but last week it came out that Jody Barrett (R) is opposed to the special session and all but saying that Democrats are 'stupid'.

Therefore, we are now reaching out to surrounding counties to ask your representatives, including Barrett for those in Dickson, Lewis, and Hickman, to support the special session and what you want them to discuss. Below you'll find a great list to include.

We are asking you to send out something similar to the information below to your county members with your representatives' names and emails. If we do not speak up they will think we are OK with whatever they do!

We the taxpayers are paying for this special session, so we should be able to have a say in it!

ISSUES:

Many of you may have seen that Jody Barrett has written Gov. Lee in opposition to the Aug. special session. There was a telling article in last weeks' Dickson Post newspaper. He wants to do nothing about the gun problem that exists in our state and country. Make sure your voice is on record asking for some kind of gun reform from your state representative and the Governor. Mr. Barrett seems to think that Democrats should not even bother to speak up!

Are you not appalled at Barrett's conduct?!

It's time to write and call.

AND REGISTER EVERYONE YOU KNOW TO VOTE NEXT CYCLE TO VOTE AGAINST BARRETT FOR A BETTER REPRESENTATIVE FOR OUR DISTRICT.

Lee (Contact Us) know what you want to be included in the gun safety reforms during the August special session that Governor Lee has already called for as needed.

• Gov. Bill Lee said the August 21st special session he has called will focus on public safety and preserving constitutional rights. Below is a list that you may use: 1. Extreme risk protections 2. Safe gun storage law 3. Mandatory safety training for all gun owners 4. Age limit of 21 to purchase guns 5. Ban on civilian purchase of semi-automatic weapons 6. Ban on civilian purchase of high capacity magazines 7. Mandatory background checks 8. Mandatory waiting period for sufficient time for thorough background checks 9. Stricter enforcement of dispossession for those with protection order against them 10. Repeal permitless carry law 11. Increase funding for mental healthcare for more psychiatric beds and providers 12. Expand Medicaid so more people have access to mental healthcare
